RESUMEN

A non-pneumatic tire (NPT) overcomes the shortcomings of a traditional pneumatic tire such as wear, punctures and blowouts. In this respect, it shows great potential in improving driving safety, and has received great attention in recent years. In this paper, a carbon fiber-reinforced polyethylene terephthalate (PET/CF) honeycomb is proposed as a support structure for NPTs, which can be easily prepared using 3D printing technology. The experimental results showed that the PET/CF has high strength and modulus and provides excellent mechanical properties. Then, a finite element (FE) model was established to predict the compression performance of auxetic honeycombs. Good agreement was achieved between the experimental data and FE analysis. The influence of the cell parameters on the compressive performance of the support structure were further analyzed. Both the wall thickness and the vertically inclined angle could modulate the mechanical performance of the NPT. Finally, the application of vertical force is used to analyze the static load of the structure. The PET/CF honeycomb as the support structure of the NPT showed outstanding bearing capacity and stiffness in contrast with elastomer counterparts. Consequently, this study broadens the material selection for NPTs and proposes a strategy for manufacturing a prototype, which provides a reference for the design and development of non-pneumatic tires.

ABSTRACT: Patients with compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD) can safely spared screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) when they meet the Baveno VI criteria as assessed by transient elastography. Recently, the cutoff values of the Baveno VI criteria assessed by 2-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) were proposed. We aimed to validate it to rule out high-risk varices (HRVs) in cACLD patients; combine spleen diameter (SPD) with the Baveno VI criteria and assess whether it can spare more screening EGD. A total of 173 cACLD patients with successful liver stiffness (LS) measurements and EGD examinations were included. We analyzed the risk factors that predicted HRVs and compared the performances of different models for ruling out HRVs. The platelet count, LS, and SPD were independent predictors of HRVs. The AUCs of platelet count, LS, spleen stiffness and SPD for diagnosing HRVs were 0.797, 0.757, 0.834, and 0.804, respectively. The Baveno VI criteria assessed by 2D-SWE spared 25.4% of EGD screenings and missed 2.4% of the HRV patients. Combining SPD ≤11.1 cm with the Baveno VI criteria could spare more EGD screenings than just applying the Baveno VI criteria (45.1% vs 25.4%, P < 0.001), and missed 4.9% of the HRV patients. The Baveno VI criteria assessed by 2D-SWE could be safely applied in cACLD patients to rule out HRV patients. The combined model Baveno VI/SPD could safely and significantly increase the rate of spared EGD.

BACKGROUND: Given the limited success rate and considerable challenges associated with conventional ultrasonography (US) guidance for percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) in non-hydronephrotic kidneys, this study proposed a solution with ultrasound contrast agent to enhance the success rate and mitigate the difficulties. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2017 to August 2023, a total of thirteen patients diagnosed with non-hydronephrotic kidney were included in the study. Following routine ultrasonography examination, no significant dilatation of the renal collecting system was observed. US-guided percutaneous nephrostomy PCN was performed with the assistance of ultrasound contrast agent (UCA). The patients were subsequently monitored to assess the improvement of symptoms and postoperative recovery. RESULTS: The success rate was found to be 100% for all patients (13/13) and kidneys (20/20). The average volume of UCA solution used was 19 ± 6.7 mL (range, 11-35 mL), while the mean duration of the operation was 18.92 ± 8.96 min (range, 7-36 min). A majority of the patients (12/13) underwent a single puncture procedure. Throughout the follow-up period, no serious complications were observed, and surgery resulted in significant alleviation of symptoms in all patients. CONCLUSION: The use of UCA-assisted US guidance PCN has been shown to be effective in achieving urinary diversion and alleviating associated clinical symptoms in non-hydronephrotic kidneys. In comparison to traditional methods, this approach demonstrates a high success rate and safety profile, while also offering a simplified operative procedure. Consequently, it presents a novel method and concept for managing non-hydronephrotic kidneys afflicted by urine leakage.

OBJECTIVE: Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) is routinely used for presurgical evaluation in many epilepsy centers. Hypometabolic characteristics have been extensively examined in prior studies, but the metabolic patterns associated with specific pathological types of drug-resistant epilepsy remain to be fully defined. This study was developed to explore the relationship between metabolic patterns or characteristics and surgical outcomes in type I and II focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) patients based on results from a large cohort. METHODS: Data from individuals who underwent epilepsy surgery from 2014 to 2019 with a follow-up duration of over 3 years and a pathological classification of type I or II FCD in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Hypometabolic patterns were quantitatively identified via statistical parametric mapping (SPM) and qualitatively analyzed via visual examination of PET-MRI co-registration images. Univariate analyses were used to explore the relationship between metabolic patterns and surgical outcomes. RESULTS: In total, this study included data from 210 patients. Following SPM calculations, four hypometabolic patterns were defined including unilobar, multi-lobar, and remote patterns as well as cases where no pattern was evident. In type II FCD patients, the unilobar pattern was associated with the best surgical outcomes (p = 0.014). In visual analysis, single gyrus (p = 0.032) and Clear-cut hypometabolism edge (p = 0.040) patterns exhibited better surgery outcomes in the type II FCD group. CONCLUSIONS: PET metabolic patterns are well-correlated with the prognosis of type II FCD patients. However, similar correlations were not observed in type I FCD, potentially owing to the complex distribution of the epileptogenic region. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: In this study, we demonstrated that FDG-PET was a crucial examination for patients with FCD, which was a common cause of epilepsy. We compared the surgical prognosis for patients with different hypometabolism distribution patterns and found that clear and focal abnormal region in PET was correlated with good surgical outcome in type II FCD patients.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to develop a new approach for identifying the localization of the seizure onset zone (SOZ) based on corticocortical evoked potentials (CCEPs) and to compare the connectivity patterns in patients with different clinical phenotypes. METHODS: Fifty patients who underwent stereoelectroencephalography and CCEP procedures were included. Logistic regression was used in the model, and six CCEP metrics were input as features: root mean square of the first peak (N1RMS) and second peak (N2RMS), peak latency, onset latency, width duration, and area. RESULTS: The area under the curve (AUC) for localizing the SOZ ranged from 0.88 to 0.93. The N1RMS values in the hippocampus sclerosis (HS) group were greater than that of the focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) IIa group (p < 0.001), independent of the distance between the recorded and stimulated sites. The sensitivity of localization was higher in the seizure-free group than in the non-seizure-free group (p = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS: This new method can be used to predict the SOZ localization in various focal epilepsy phenotypes. SIGNIFICANCE: This study proposed a machine-learning approach for localizing the SOZ. Moreover, we examined how clinical phenotypes impact large-scale abnormality of the epileptogenic networks.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) and traditional open surgery (OS) are effective and safe options for patients with drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (DR-mTLE). However, their superiority in seizure control and preservation of functional abilities remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes of MRgLITT and OS. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This multicenter retrospective cohort study included patients with DR-mTLE who underwent MRgLITT or OS at three centres between 2015 and 2023. The data on patient demographics, presurgical non-invasive evaluation, stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) implantation, memory alteration, and seizure outcomes were collected. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was conducted for the comparison of seizure control and functional preservation between two surgical approaches. RESULTS: Of the 244 individuals who met the study criteria, 33 underwent MRgLITT and 211 OS. The median (interquartile range) age at seizure onset was 22.0 (13.0) and 12.3 (10.0) years in the MRgLITT and OS groups, respectively. The first PSM, based on demographic and non-invasive information, resulted in 26 matched pairs for the primary analysis. There were no significant differences in memory preservation ( P = 0.95) or surgical outcomes ( P = 0.96) between the groups. The second PSM, based on demographics and SEEG implantation, yielded 32 matched pairs for the sensitivity analysis, showing similar results. Subset analysis of early and late MRgLITT cases revealed no statistically significant differences in the proportion of patients with memory decline ( P = 0.42) or seizure control ( P = 1.00). Patients who underwent SEEG implantation were 96% less likely to achieve seizure freedom after MRgLITT ( P = 0.02). CONCLUSION: Minimally invasive MRgLITT is associated with memory preservation and seizure control, similar to traditional OS. MRgLITT is effective and safe for DR-mTLE and is relevant for future prospective randomized trials on dominant-side mTLE, providing practical implications for guiding neurosurgeons in the selection of surgical approaches.

3D-printing provides a feasible technique for realizing new materials into structural and intelligent parts. In this work, biomass furan-based polyesters poly (ethylene furanoate) (PEF), poly (trimethylene furanoate) (PTF), and poly (butylene furanoate) (PBF) were successfully synthesized in a 5 L reactor through the melt polycondensation process and fabricated into 3D-printing feedstocks. It was demonstrated that the three furan-based polyesters were additively-manufactured into complicated structures. Besides, the mechanical and thermal properties of furan-based polyesters could be tailored by the chain length of diol monomer. The mechanical performance of 3D-printed PEF, PTF and PBF were characterized and compared with commercial filaments. The tensile strength of PEF and PTF could reach 74.6 and 63.8 MPa respectively, which exhibited superior tensile property to poly(ether-ether-ketone) (PEEK), polyamide (PA) and polylactic acid (PLA). Meanwhile, the compression results demonstrated that the PEF and PTF possessed comparable energy absorption capacity with PEEK and PLA respectively, which indicated excellent mechanical properties of furan-based polyesters. It was interesting to find that the 3D-printed structures including solid cube, bionic flower and lattice structures were employed to prove that the PTF possessed excellent shape memory properties. Therefore, the proposed biomass furan-based polymers would offer more freedom in the field of 3D-printing.

Background: Posterior cortex epilepsy (PCE) primarily comprises seizures originating from the occipital, parietal, and/or posterior edge of the temporal lobe. Electroclinical dissociation and subtle imaging representation render the diagnosis of PCE challenging. Improved methods for accurately identifying patients with PCE are necessary. Objectives: To develop a novel voxel-based image postprocessing method for better visual identification of the neuroimaging abnormalities associated with PCE. Design: Multicenter, retrospective study. Methods: Clinical and imaging features of 165 patients with PCE were retrospectively reviewed and collected from five epilepsy centers. A total of 37 patients (32.4% female, 20.2 ± 8.9 years old) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-negative PCE were finally included for analysis. Image postprocessing features were calculated over a neighborhood for each voxel in the multimodality data. The postprocessed maps comprised structural deformation, hyperintense signal, and hypometabolism. Five raters from three different centers were blinded to the clinical diagnosis and determined the neuroimaging abnormalities in the postprocessed maps. Results: The average accuracy of correct identification was 55.7% (range from 43.2 to 62.2%) and correct lateralization was 74.1% (range from 64.9 to 81.1%). The Cronbach's alpha was 0.766 for the correct identification and 0.683 for the correct lateralization with similar results of the interclass correlation coefficient, thus indicating reliable agreement between the raters. Conclusion: The image postprocessing method developed in this study can potentially improve the visual detection of MRI-negative PCE. The technique could lead to an increase in the number of patients with PCE who could benefit from the surgery.

BACKGROUND: Hypothalamus hamartomas (HHs) are rare, congenital, tumor-like, and nonprogressive malformations resulting in drug-resistant epilepsy, mainly affecting children. Gelastic seizures (GS) are an early hallmark of epilepsy with HH. The aim of this study was to explore the disease progression and the underlying physiopathological mechanisms of pathological laughter in HH. METHODS: We obtained clinical information and metabolic images of 56 HH patients and utilized ictal semiology evaluation to stratify the specimens into GS-only, GS-plus, and no-GS subgroups and then applied contrasted trajectories inference (cTI) to calculate the pseudotime value and evaluate GS progression. Ordinal logistic regression was performed to identify neuroimaging-clinical predictors of GS, and then voxelwise lesion network-symptom mapping (LNSM) was applied to explore GS-associated brain regions. RESULTS: cTI inferred the specific metabolism trajectories of GS progression and revealed increased complexity from GS to other seizure types. This was further validated via actual disease duration (Pearson R = 0.532, P = 0.028). Male sex [odds ratio (OR) = 2.611, P = 0.013], low age at seizure onset (OR = 0.361, P = 0.005), high normalized HH metabolism (OR = - 1.971, P = 0.037) and severe seizure burden (OR = - 0.006, P = 0.032) were significant neuroimaging clinical predictors. LNSM revealed that the dysfunctional cortico-subcortico-cerebellar network of GS and the somatosensory cortex (S1) represented a negative correlation. CONCLUSIONS: This study sheds light on the clinical characteristics and progression of GS in children with HH. We identified distinct subtypes of GS and demonstrated the involvement of specific brain regions at the cortical-subcortical-cerebellar level. These valuable results contribute to our understanding of the neural correlates of GS.

Objective: To characterize the PET-MRI co-registration of hypometabolic patterns in focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) types I and II and provide some suggestions in presurgical evaluation of epilepsy surgery. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed PET-MRI co-registration imaging data from a cohort of 83 epilepsy patients with histologically confirmed FCD types I and II. Hypometabolic patterns were classified into 4 types: bottom of sulcus hypometabolism (BOSH), single island of sulcus hypometabolism (SIOS), single gyrus or sulcus hypometabolism (SGOS), and multiple gyri and sulci hypometabolism (MGOS). Results: Most of cases that were overlooked by conventional MRI and PET evaluation but positive in PET-MRI co-registration were focalized lesions in dorsolateral frontal lobe (9/15) and FCD type IIa was the most prevalent pathological type (11/15). The FCD histological types (p = 0.027) and locations (p < 0.001) were independent predictors of PET-MRI co-registration hypometabolic patterns. Focalized hypometabolic patterns (BOSH, SIOS, SGOS) were primarily observed in the frontal lobe (33/39) and FCD type II (43/62) and extensive pattern (MGOS) in temporal lobe (18/20) and FCD type I (16/21; p < 0.005). Conclusion: PET-MRI co-registration enhanced the detection of FCD type IIa compared with conventional MRI and PET reading. The hypometabolic patterns of FCD type I and temporal lobe FCD were more extensive than those of FCD type II and frontal lobe FCD, respectively. The predilection of focalized hypometabolic patterns in frontal lobe FCD suggested that subtle lesions should be checked carefully in patients with suspected frontal lobe epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we analyzed the clinical and epidemiological features of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection in patients with cervical intraepithelial lesions. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 240 cases of histologically confirmed cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions to determine any correlation between HPV infection characteristics, age distribution, and cervical epithelial lesions. RESULTS: Patients between the ages of 31 and 40 with cervical intraepithelial lesions were more likely to have high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL; 40.7%) than low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL; 31.3%) (P < 0.05). In patients with HSIL, HR-HPV16, HR-HPV33, and HR-HPV52 were the most common types of HPV infection, while in patients with LSIL, HR-HPV16, HR-HPV52, and HR-HPV58 were the most common types of HPV infection. The highest percentage of single infections occurred in the HSIL group (69.6%), followed by the LSIL group (68.8%). HSIL was present in a significant number of patients (28.6%) aged 30 years and above who tested positive for 12 HPV types but negative for TCT. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of HSIL is greatest in younger patients. Patients with cervical epithelial lesions typically have a single infection of a high-risk HPV genotype-HR-HPV16, HR-HPV33, HR-HPV52, or HR-HPV58. Patients aged 30 years and above who test positive for one of 12 types of HPV but negative for TCT are at increased risk for developing HSIL. In order to detect cervical lesions early and begin treatment without delay, colposcopy should be performed regardless of whether or not a high-risk HPV infection is present.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of labor analgesia for primiparae with different stages of cervical dilation on parturition and neonates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the past three years, 530 cases of primiparae who had delivered in the Second People's Hospital of Hefei and were eligible for a vaginal trial of parturition were enrolled as the research subjects. Of these, 360 puerperae had labor analgesia, and the remaining 170 were taken as the control group. Those given labor analgesia were divided into three groups based on the different stages of cervical dilation at that time. There were 160 cases in Group I (cervical dilation <3 cm), 100 cases in Group II (cervical dilation of 3-4 cm), and 100 cases in Group III (cervical dilation of 4-6 cm). The labor and neonatal outcomes were compared among the four groups. RESULTS: The first, second, and total stages of labor in the three groups receiving labor analgesia were all longer than in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (p < 0.05 in all). Group I had the longest duration of each stage and the total stage of labor. The differences in labor stages and the total stage of labor were not statistically significant between Group II and Group III (P > 0.05). In the three groups with labor analgesia, the usage rate of oxytocin was higher than in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The differences in the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage, the incidence of postpartum urine retention, and the episiotomy rate were not statistically significant among the four groups (P > 0.05). The differences in the neonatal Apgar score were not statistically significant among the four groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Labor analgesia might prolong the stages of labor but does not affect the neonatal outcomes. It would be optimal to conduct labor analgesia when cervical dilation reaches 3-4 cm.

BACKGROUND: Noninvasive assessment of high-risk varices (HRV) in idiopathic portal hypertension (IPH) is rare. The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of spleen stiffness (SS) for evaluating the presence of HRV in IPH patients as compared the measurements in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV). METHODS: A retrospective single-center study was performed to evaluate the performance of SS for assessing HRV in IPH and HBV-infected patients, in comparison with liver stiffness (LS), spleen stiffness-to-liver stiffness ratio (SS/LS), LS spleen-diameter-to-platelet-ratio score (LSPS), portal hypertension risk score (PH risk score) and varices risk score, by using upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGE) as the gold standard. Finally, 86 IPH and 102 HBV-infected patients were enrolled. UGE, two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) and laboratory data were collected, and noninvasive parameters were calculated. Analysis of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves was conducted to acquire the optimal area under the ROC curve (AUC) and cutoff value for predicting the presence of HRV. RESULTS: In patients with HRV, the significantly different parameters between IPH (34.9%) and HBV-infected patients (46.1%) were as follows: spleen size (diameter 18.5 ± 3.9 cm vs. 20.8 ± 2.7 cm), SS (50.2 kPa vs. 42.9 kPa), LS (11.1 kPa vs. 18.3 kPa) and PT (prothrombin time 15.1 s vs. 16.7 s). No statistically significant differences were found in liver function, platelet counts, spleen thickness and flow volumes in the portal venous system (p > 0.05). The AUCs of SS were 0.98 and 0.96 for predicting the presence of HRV in IPH (44.0 kPa cutoff value; 0.93 sensitivity; 0.96 specificity) and HBV-infected patients (35.2 kPa cutoff value; 1.00 sensitivity; 0.82 specificity), respectively, which were significantly better than other parameters. CONCLUSION: SS shows the optimal overall performance for predicting the presence of HRV in IPH and HBV-infected patients, in comparison with other noninvasive parameters.

The original stereoelectroencephalography frame-based implantation technique has been proven to be safe and effective. But this procedure is complicated and time-consuming. With the development of modern robotic technology, robot-guided intracerebral electrodes implantation is being implemented at many epilepsy centers. We retrospectively analyzed the results of 147 patients who underwent SEEG electrode implantation surgery at our hospital. Robot-guided surgery was performed on 87 patients from January 2018 to December 2019. The remaining 60 patients received frame-based surgery from June 2015 to June 2016. 147 patients underwent a total of 149 SEEG electrode implantation procedures. The mean error of the entry point of the robot-guided surgery group was lower than that of the frame-based surgery group (1.48 ± 1.46 mm vs. 1.59 ± 0.9 mm, P < 0.001). Also, the robot group had a higher mean number of electrodes per patient (8.9 ± 2.2 vs. 7.9 ± 2.5, P = 0.004), a significantly shorter mean operative time (69.5 ± 23.3 min vs. 106.8 ± 39.8 min, P < 0.001), and mean time per electrode (7.9 ± 1.3 min vs. 13.5 ± 3.1 min, P < 0.001) than the frame-based group. In the robot-guided group, the target point (TP) error was positively correlated with skull thickness (P = 0.001) and negatively correlated with the electrode-skull angle (P = 0.041). The mean target point error and hemorrhage rates were also analyzed, but no differences were observed between the two groups. Robot-guided surgery has a higher entry point accuracy and efficiency. Electrode implantation accuracy was affected by the skull thickness and electrode-skull angle.

Hypothalamic hamartoma (HH) is a rare lesion consisting of normal neurons and neuroglia arranged in an abnormal pattern which usually causes gelastic seizures (GS). Magnetic resonance-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) has been developed as a minimally invasive approach to treat HH and gradually become a first-line treatment. In total, this study enrolled 47 consecutive HH patients that underwent one round of ablation. Patients were followed for at least one year. Patients' medical records and surgical information were carefully reviewed, and univariate analyses were performed. Of the treated patients, 72.3% remained GS-free in this study, with an overall Engel class I rate of 68.1%. Long-term postoperative complications occurred in six patients. Factors associated with GS prognosis included Delalande classification (p = 0.033), HH volume (p = 0.01), and the ablation rate of the HH body (p = 0.035). The disconnection rate was 0.73 ± 0.14 in the Engel class Ia group as compared to 0.62 ± 0.13 in the Engel Ib-Engel IV group (p = 0.046). MRgLITT represents a safe and effective surgical procedure. Patients with larger or Delalande type IV HH may require multiple rounds of ablation. In addition to assessing the degree of disconnection, ablation volume should also be carefully considered for patients undergoing this procedure.

Brain tumors are common in epilepsy surgery and frequently occur in the temporal lobe, but the optimal surgical strategies to remove the tumor and epileptogenic zone remain controversial. We aim at illustrating the positron emission tomography (PET) metabolism and the stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) epileptogenicity of temporal lobe long-term epilepsy-associated tumors (LEAT). In this study, 70 patients and 25 healthy controls were included. Our analysis leveraged group-level analysis to reveal the whole-brain metabolic pattern of temporal lobe LEATs. The SEEG-based epileptogenicity mapping was performed to verify the PET findings in the epileptic network. Compared to controls, patients with a temporal lobe LEAT showed a more widespread epileptic network based on 18FDG-PET in patients with a mesial temporal lobe LEAT than in those with a lateral temporal lobe LEAT. The significant brain clusters mainly involved the paracentral lobule (ANOVA F = 9.731, p < 0.001), caudate nucleus (ANOVA F = 20.749, p < 0.001), putamen (Kruskal−Wallis H = 19.258, p < 0.001), and thalamus (ANOVA F = 4.754, p = 0.011). Subgroup analysis and SEEG-based epileptogenicity mapping are similar to the metabolic pattern. Our findings demonstrate the metabolic and electrophysiological organization of the temporal lobe LEAT epileptic network, which may assist in a patient-specific surgical strategy.

BACKGROUND: In patients with surgically amenable focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), subtle neuroimaging representation and the risk of open surgery lead to gaps in surgical treatment and delays in surgery. OBJECTIVE: To construct an integrated platform that can accurately detect FCD and automatically establish trajectory planning for magnetic resonance-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy. METHODS: This multicenter study included retrospective patients to train the automated detection model, prospective patients for model evaluation, and an additional cohort for construction of the automated trajectory planning algorithm. For automated detection, we evaluated the performance and generalization of the conventional neural network in different multicenter cohorts. For automated trajectory planning, feasibility/noninferiority and safety score were calculated to evaluate the clinical value. RESULTS: Of the 260 patients screened for eligibility, 202 were finally included. Eighty-eight patients were selected for conventional neural network training, 88 for generalizability testing, and 26 for the establishment of an automated trajectory planning algorithm. The model trained using preprocessed and multimodal neuroimaging displayed the best performance in diagnosing FCD (figure of merit = 0.827 and accuracy range = 75.0%-91.7% across centers). None of the clinical variables had a significant effect on prediction performance. Moreover, the automated trajectory was feasible and noninferior to the manual trajectory ( χ2 = 3.540, P = .060) and significantly safer (overall: test statistic = 30.423, P < .001). CONCLUSION: The integrated platform validated based on multicenter, prospective cohorts exhibited advantages of easy implementation, high performance, and generalizability, thereby indicating its potential in the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of FCD.

Cartilage tissue engineering technology provides a solution for treating osteoarthritis. Based on the viscoelastic nature of articular cartilage, many viscoelastic hydrogel scaffolds have been developed for investigating the effects on chondrocyte behaviors. However, cellulose nanocrystal/collagen (CNC/COL) hydrogels have not been used as a viscoelastic microenvironment to study chondrocyte growth. Here, we prepared CNC/COL hydrogels with tunable viscoelastic properties and investigated their influences on chondrocyte behaviors. The results showed that CNC and COL within the hydrogels are bonded by hydrogen bonds. The hydrogels had a microporous structure, and the viscoelastic properties were enhanced by increasing the concentration of CNC. Moreover, enhancing the hydrogel viscoelastic properties, including stress relaxation, creep, storage modulus, and loss modulus, promoted the cell shape change, proliferation, and matrix deposition and reduced the IL-1ß level. Using a principal component analysis (PCA), stress relaxation was assessed to have the strongest correlation with chondrocytes behaviors, with an authority weight value of 62.547%. More importantly, FAK and YAP were involved in the chondrocytes' response to the rapid relaxing hydrogel by immunofluorescence staining.

PURPOSE: Hand automatisms (HA) are common clinical manifestations in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy. However, the location of the symptomatogenic zone (EZ) in HA as well as the networks involved, are still unclear. To have a better understanding of HA underlying mechanisms, we analyzed images from interictal [18F] fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE). METHODS: We retrospectively recruited 79 mTLE patients and 18 healthy people that substituted the control group for the analysis. All patients underwent anterior temporal lobectomy and were seizure-free. Based on the semiology of the HA occurrence, the patients were divided into three subgroups: patients with unilateral HA (Uni-HA), with bilateral HA (Bil-HA) and without HA (None-HA). We performed the intergroup comparison analysis of the interictal FDG-PET images and compared the functional connectivity within metabolic communities. RESULTS: Our analysis showed that the metabolic patterns varied among the different groups. The Uni-HA subgroup had significant differences in the extratemporal lobe brain areas, mostly in the ipsilateral supplementary motor area (SMA) and middle cingulate cortex (MCC) when compared to the healthy control group. The Bil-HA subgroup demonstrated that the bilateral SMA and MCC areas were differentially affected, whereas in the None-HA subgroup the differences were evident in limited brain areas. The metabolic network involving HA showed a constrained network embedding the SMA and MCC brain regions. Furthermore, the increased metabolic synchronization between SMA and MCC was significantly correlated with HA. CONCLUSION: The metabolic pattern of HA was most conspicuous in SMA and MCC brain regions. Increased metabolic synchronization within SMA and MCC was considered as the major EZ of HA.

Objective: This study aims to explore the effect of adjuvant hyperbaric oxygen therapy on ovarian function after laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy. Methods: A total of 60 patients with ovarian cysts treated at our hospital from January 2018 to August 2020 were enrolled. According to the different treatment modalities, the patients were divided into the control and observation groups. Patients in both groups underwent laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy with oral administration of Chinese patent medicine Kuntai capsules after surgery. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy was added to patients in the observation group in addition to the treatment in the control group. The anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), and antral follicle count (AFC) serum levels were detected in both groups before the operation and at the first and third menstrual cycles postoperatively to evaluate ovarian function. Results: At the first and third menstrual cycles after surgery, the AMH, E2, and AFC serum levels in the two groups were significantly lower than before surgery, and the FSH and LH serum levels were higher than before surgery. The differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After the operation, AMH, E2, and AFC serum levels in the observation group were significantly higher than in the control group. FSH and LH serum levels were significantly lower than in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: For patients undergoing laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy, the adjuvant hyperbaric oxygen therapy could significantly improve the postoperative ovarian reserve function with remarkable effects.
